Jimi Hendrix burst into fame as a guitar genius at the age of 24 (1967) and died before he turned 28 (1970). With in this short span of time he revolutionized not only electric guitar playing but also shattered all the existing definitions of the word 'music'. Using electricity he took music into another dimension - an act which has not been duplicated since his death though many have tried.
Guitar being a stringed instrument, guitar playing is a third house affair. In his chart Ketu is the only planet in the third house, which is occupied by the mystical Aquarius.
Saturn aspects this Ketu posited in Aquarius by its 10th house aspect. This strengthens Ketu as is the case in the chart of Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and this Ketu inturn allows Hendrix to relay the energies emanating from the sign of Aquarius through his music.
His music and words carry prophetic images symbolizing the dawning of the Age of Aquarius in the very near future. It is now widely known that Aquarius is the sign ruling over electricity, which puts his use of electricity in reproducing cosmic sounds in musical form into perspective.
In his childhood he got to spend a lot of time with his part Cherokee (a Native American Indian tribe) paternal grandmother, Nora, who is represented by the Ketu in his chart. He treasured the time spent with her as she instilled in him his native Indian heritage by telling him old Indian stories.
In his own words she was the one who helped bring about the sense of Self in him in those early lonesome years. This exemplifies the power of Ketu to connect one to ones genetic and racial roots and the purpose of ones incarnation.
His success came in a foreign land (England) with the help and involvement of foreigners. This is his Rahu in action in the ninth house. Sun., the Karmic distribution control planet being the dispositor of Rahu is placed in the foreign (twelfth) house assuring him success in a foreign land.
The fact that his Rahu is placed in Leo, the sign ruling stage performance, made him work against his inherent shyness and take to stage. This again just goes to show that the sign and house associated with Rahu are the areas which require effort in the present incarnation.
Interestingly his most creative phase was when Rahu was transiting Aries (1967) which happens to be his fifth house, the house of creativity. This is why I am of the opinion that fellow astrologers should pay attention to the transit results of the nodes, especially Rahu. It is a great help in ascertaining which area of the chart will receive attention at a certain point of time in the native 's life.
He died as he was about to enter his Mars age (28 years). Mars is the 12th lord in his chart and is placed in the constellation of Vishakha ( one of the three constellations promoting the dark side on the planet in the present times). The 12th lord is the significator of one's bed partner. We know that Monika Danneman was his girlfriend and present at the time of his death.
Final comments ~ His achievements were not without aid from hallucenogenics & alchohol which in the end resulted in an early death. He was not living a sattvic (pure) lifestyle necessary for fostering creativity from within without any external aid. A lot of pain is felt in his music because of his own lifestyle and the Kalyuga situation on the planet as a whole. His music does not take one 'Higher' in the real sense of the word. It promotes fantasy & addiction in those who are not very disciplined. Most artists pormoted in the west are just powered by meat, alchohol & drugs and promote similar wave-energies in the listener. This might come as a surprise to his diehard fans but they must take the totality into account before pronouncing their judgements.
